Devastating News on Cargo Plane Incident: Death Toll Rises to 13

The tally of victims from the UPS cargo plane which burst into flames and crashed has risen to 13, according to latest statements.

City Leader's Remarks

“On my way to the Teamsters’ memorial service, I was informed of a 13th person that lost their life as a consequence of the plane incident,” wrote the municipal leader in a social media post. “My prayers is with the relatives, friends and colleagues of all who were taken in this recent disaster. We will get through this collectively.”

Victims Named

A release from UPS named the pilots operating the jet as Captain Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our thoughts reach out to all UPSer who has been touched and all in our community community – supporting you and making sure you obtain the attention and assistance you need is our focus,” the company’s message expressed.

Inquiry Findings

National officials announced that the freight aircraft’s left wing ignited and an engine fell off shortly after departure from the airfield, leading to the jet to plummet and explode into a fireball.

The safety agency has said it is probing the aircraft’s maintenance history, that was in Texas for maintenance several weeks prior to the crash.

Aircraft information indicated the jet was on the ground in the Texas city from early September to mid-October.

“We are cognizant that this jet was located in that city,” said an official on Thursday, without a exact date range. “We will examine all elements of repairs that was performed, even the San Antonio time, all the way to the date of the journey.”

Recovery of Vital Components

The cockpit voice recorder and data recorder were recovered, and the engine was discovered on the airfield.

The devices – known as flight recorders – were built to withstand collision damage and extreme heat from fires, and they appeared to be in one piece when located among the wreckage. Officials plan on reviewing recordings from the black boxes.

Aircraft’s last flight details indicated an height of that level and a rate of 210 mph before the crash.

Repair Record

Based on FAA records dated that date, a crack on a component in the tank area demanded repairs.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which stated it provides structural repairs for the company’s jet and manages a repair facility in that city, refused to comment, but said it would cooperate fully when officials reached out it.

Services Continue

Meanwhile, UPS Worldport operations restarted last night with its overnight or night sort procedure, official the company official said. Each of the three runways at the airport were likewise back in operation.

The distribution hub in the city is the organization’s largest. The hub engages more than a large number of people in the locality, manages three hundred aircraft each day and processes over 400,000 packages an hour.

Community Reaction

A memorial was organized on the late afternoon of recently by the regional worker’s group, which represents staff at the Louisville airport, the firm’s primary freight center.

Worker representatives, which supports employees, started the gathering with a moment of silence at the evening hour, the approximate moment of the crash previously.

“This event was so abrupt, so surprising,” the official addressed the crowd of 200. “No one had a moment to bid farewell to any one of those who we have mourned.”
