2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Leadership Change Follows Lukewarm Feedback
The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming initial reveal last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive a key figure informed staff about this decision through an official communication, which stressed that playtesting had shown the need for a clearer vision.
The president expressed that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to satisfy player expectations.
Trend of Strategic Hires
This announcement mirrors a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise development group.

Team—
I understand you all just wrapped up your gathering - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and talented designers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re excited for that partnership to continue.”
With your dedication and adaptability, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was enlightening. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the requirement for a clearer vision.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the criticism to consideration and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed vision - one that’s positioned to achieve its ambition to our audience.
The belief in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the outstanding development you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome the new hire as the incoming Studio Head of 31st Union. Following a period of discussions, he starts with us on the specified date.
His guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming field is considerable, having devoted the last 15 years creating and overseeing some of the most well-known series in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in receiving him next week. We are all eager to persist observing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the months to follow.
The President
Experience of the Incoming Head
The appointee presently serves in the position of executive producer and production lead at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. Brinkman earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in multiple development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, prior to that, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Title Details and Vision
Project Ethos was unveiled in last year in conjunction with a community playtest. Then, 31st Union portrayed the title as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting step forward on the category."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the description states. "Challenge the competition with unique powers, risks, and tests that change every match. Will you leave securely with your valuable rewards? Or take a risk, put it on the line, and hope your team can earn top ranking? The decision is yours."
Project Ethos lacks an official release date or supported systems, but enthusiasts can expect more updates as development advances.
