This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Romantic Bond.

We present a dare for long-term couples who appreciate scary movies: Settle in with your loved one and stream Together. The 2025 indie hit recently had its launch on a streaming platform on Hulu. On the surface, it might appear like standard physical horror, but within Together exists a intense contemplation about our choices in loving one another.

An Introductory Film Exploring The Nuances of Love

Together marks the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have stayed together for ten years. Having wed in reality in 2017, the two stars contribute a special spark to their characters, masterfully depicting both the good and bad of a enduring union.

The plot starts when the couple move from the urban environment to the rural area for Millie’s job. A familiar narrative setup, sure, but that’s mostly where the conventions end. Together evolves into as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their new home, a violent storm occurs, and Millie and Tim discover an hole in the earth. After being trapped overnight there and managing to escape, a supernatural entity takes hold of the duo. This force creates a paranormal intimacy between them that goes far beyond emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a gradually intensifying fright fest, weaving in bits of dreamlike terrors, gross (but tastefully done) biological grotesqueries, and surprisingly comedic dialogue (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). Michael Shanks skillfully blends these components neatly and wraps them up in a slowly mounting aura of dread.

Nuanced Portrayals

A large part of Together is solely the two lead actors, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Millie’s confidence and sense of connection is deteriorating due to a distance. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his reluctance to pursue anything but his failing musical ambitions slowly bubbles to the surface.

In contrast, Tim's character feels trapped and isolated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve left the city and distant from his social circle. He fears the notion of utterly sacrificing his individual identity in Millie. This fear is amplified by the reality he can’t drive and needs Millie for getting around.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie avoids making either of his characters the obvious villain.

The couple grapple with the sort of issues that are inherent in any relationship after ten years. Deep down, they still love each other. They find humor with each other, offer support, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their bond.

Allegory and Meaning

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to another person, the symbolism does not come across as clumsy or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments offer a brilliant analogue to the character-driven drama. Both the supernatural and the personal enhance each other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which is best experienced firsthand, has created disagreement on the movie's final takeaway about enmeshed dynamics. Accounts suggest that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a powerful case for remaining unattached. On the other hand, certain partners having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could act as a telling indicator of how you view relationships. Will the conclusion sow feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your significant other and say, “I understand that choice”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an experiment you can experience right now.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform at present.
